Take the Lead With a Gerontology & Palliative Certification
We believe that bettering the quality of life for every individual is a critical goal for all social workers. In the field of palliative and geriatric care, a social worker steps into one of the most vulnerable and trying times in someone’s life. Through our Master of Social Work with Gerontology and Palliative Care Embedded Certification, our MSW students gain the skills to step into these challenging moments.
Through this additional certification, students are prepared to better address the issues faced by the aging and by those with serious illnesses: difficult decisions about treatment options; advanced care planning; depression, stress and other mental health concerns; conflict resolution between family members; and communicating and coordinating with doctors and medical staff.
As advocates and guides, social workers need the insights and cultural competency to be successful in a number of different settings.
Students who choose to pursue this specialization will gain the skills to work as a social worker in any field, but with a gerontology and palliative care certification, students will also learn to provide holistic support to those facing these psychosocial and developmental issues.
